Quality is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to improving our work while sticking to our strong values. When we focus on high performance and quality, it builds trust and confidence in ourselves and the ships we build. This drives us to not only be better, but to also be more creative and find new ways to improve. Resources like our Operations Resource Centers help us create a Zero Compromise environment where every shipbuilder has the support to do their best and meet the highest standards.
Quality in Action
One example of our commitment to quality is Terrance Hannah, a work leaderman in the Sheetmetal department. Terrance uses his deep knowledge and leadership to guide his team every day.
“I want to ensure the next wave of shipbuilders can construct the same world-class ships that have carried us for more than 85 years,” Terrance said.
His leadership goes beyond his role — he takes on tasks that are usually done by support welders, ensuring that work orders and vessel milestones stay on track.
Empowering Learning
Whether you’re a seasoned supervisor or new to Ingalls, the shipyard can feel overwhelming at times. Operations Resource Centers (ORCs) can help shipbuilders, especially craft leaders, to master their craft and overcome challenges.
Alicia Davis, Welding general foreman, uses the ORCs to learn new processes, like the ORION system.
“The ORCs are a space where we can get the help we need to get our work done,” she says. “Some people may hesitate to ask questions in other settings, but here, it's encouraged. We all learn and improve together.”
Upholding Excellence Together
By maintaining a Zero Compromise environment, we ensure that our commitment to quality and performance not only meets, but consistently exceeds our standard of excellence.
Zero Fires. Zero Damages. Zero Injuries. Zero Compromise.
