Congratulations to Jakavious Pickett, manager, Shipbuilder Engagement, on his recent appointment as president of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce board of directors for 2025!
As part of the Integrated Communications & Stakeholder Engagement department, Jakavious works to help shipbuilders feel more connected and engaged in the work they do, contributing to the success and well-being of our workforce. His commitment to fostering a supportive environment has been a hallmark of his leadership.
A retired U.S. Air Force veteran, Jakavious has made a lasting impact on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, which he has proudly called home since being stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in 2002. Following his distinguished military career, Jakavious transitioned into leadership roles within the community, showcasing his passion for service and dedication to empowering others.
In addition to his work at Ingalls and with the chamber of commerce, Jakavious is lead pastor of Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Church in Biloxi, which he and his wife founded in 2015.
He also invests his time back into the Mississippi Gulf Coast community by volunteering with several organizations and initiatives, as well as previously serving on numerous boards of directors across South Mississippi. Additionally, he has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the One Coast Community Leader Award, Top 10 Under 40, and the Coast Young Professionals Forever Young Award. He has also been previously inducted into the Coast Young Professionals Hall of Fame. A two-time recipient of the Biloxi NAACP Dorothy Ashley Award, Jakavious has also received the Bishop Paul S. Morton Award for Pastoral Excellence.
