The “First Impression Connections: How to Build Your Network” session taught shipbuilders how to strengthen professional relationships and build meaningful connections. Brenna Sprinkle, manager, Operations, Shelly Laughlin, manager, Business Management and Rob Wise, project management, Infrastructure & Sustainability, shared insights on expanding networks and fostering mentorship.

“Ingalls’ professional development events are a great chance to learn from people who’ve truly grown here,” said Chase LaRue, structural engineer, Engineering. “Hearing their perspectives on first impressions and networking makes the experience both encouraging and genuinely useful for anyone looking to grow.”

Participants walked away with simple, actionable tips to make a good impression through meeting preparation, work ethic and being confident. Panelists also discussed erasing imposter syndrome and stepping out of the comfort zone. Shipbuilders were also encouraged to join Culture Connectors and participate in events like Connect with Directs to build a network across departments in the shipyard.

“I also plan on using their suggestions — being open to new things, becoming a rolodex full of knowledge, and sharing what I know with coworkers,” said Peter Lee, designer, Engineering. “Challenge myself to come out of the comfort zones so I can strive to do more each day.”
