The calendar may say fall is coming soon, but the South Mississippi heat and humidity say otherwise.
After a long summer of working in the heat, it’s easy to think you’ve gotten used to it.
But heat stress can still happen — especially when temperature, humidity and workload all add up.
Don’t let your guard down.
Pay attention to how you feel during your shift. If the heat starts catching up with you, don’t try to tough it out.
Take a break, cool down and hydrate. Use shade or cooling areas when the job allows.
And keep an eye on the people working around you. If a teammate seems like they’re struggling with the heat, check on them and help them get to a cooler place.
Know when to get help.
If symptoms get worse or a teammate needs immediate help, call 228-935-6101 for emergency help in the shipyard.
Stay alert, take care of yourself and look out for the shipbuilder beside you.
