Connection was the mission of the day as shipbuilders packed the room for the Culture Connector Networking Committee’s Peer-to-Peer Speed Networking event. Over the course of one hour, participants rotated through two‑minute conversations, practicing their elevator pitches, sharing their experiences and meeting colleagues across different departments.
“I am not a self-starter when it comes to conversation and even though I thought two minutes would be a little awkward, we discussed a lot of things,” said Lanetta Fantroy, test engineer. “Most importantly, I encountered a couple of people that I wanted to follow up with as far as my own career path goals.!”
The relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere made it easy for participants to open up and meet people they might never cross paths within their daily routines.
“It allowed time for shipbuilders to connect with their peers to develop professional connections,” said Devante Thomas, subcontracts administrator. I also enjoyed identifying opportunities for future collaboration.”
The session highlighted how valuable cross‑department relationships are to our shipyard culture. Shipbuilders shared how meeting new faces helped them understand different parts of the business, uncover shared challenges, and recognize how each role contributes to our mission.
“It was great meeting and connecting with individuals from all areas of the company,” said Darius Wilson, security investigator. “The experience gave me a deeper appreciation and respect for the work being done out here and for the people who make it happen.”
Culture Connectors work to help strengthen our culture and create a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported and connected.
