Ingalls Shipbuilding welcomed its 2026 summer interns with a kickoff event on June 2. Interns from across the shipyard had the chance to meet one another, learn about the company, and hear what to expect during their summer experience.

Susan Jacobs, Vice President of Human Resources & Administration, spoke about the importance of developing future talent at Ingalls and the company’s backlog of work. Interns were also introduced to Lights of Hope, an intern-led service project that honors those affected by cancer and remembers those who have lost their lives to the disease.

To wrap up the event, interns took part in a hands-on “shipbuilding” competition that combined creativity with basic engineering concepts.

Business Management intern Summer Childress said, “It was exciting to see enthusiasm among my peers at the Intern Welcome Event. I’m so thankful that all of us are able to unite under Ingalls’ and HII’s mission of providing the U.S. military with excellent ships and technology.”

We look forward to seeing what the 2026 intern class will accomplish this summer. Be sure to watch for updates on their service project, Lights of Hope, and join us in welcoming our 2026 summer interns.
