Hurricane season officially began June 1, and Ingalls made sure everyone is on board and knows the plan. Leaders from across the yard met last month to review heavy weather plans and ensure every department is prepared long before a storm forms.
LEADERSHIP IN ACTION
During the May briefing, teams walked through updated hurricane procedures, communication protocols and facility readiness steps to make sure nothing is left to chance.
“Preparation, discipline and execution before a storm are what protect our shipbuilders, safeguard our facilities and position us to recover quickly when conditions improve,” said Justin McArthur, director, Facilities & Maintenance. “The work we do before landfall makes a difference when it matters the most.”
HOW INGALLS STANDS READY
Tropical systems can form quickly and change direction without warning.
Preparation keeps shipbuilders safe, reduces risk and helps us stay focused on the mission. Ingalls monitors every system from the moment it forms and activates plans early to stay ahead of changing conditions.
Our heavy weather plan includes:
-
Continuous weather tracking by our Emergency Operations Center
-
Early actions to secure waterfront areas, equipment and critical systems
-
Communication plans that ensure supervisors and shipbuilders have accurate, timely updates
-
Coordination with local officials and agencies throughout any storm threat
