Shipbuilders took part in an energizing session on courageous leadership led by Dr. Jacob Breland, Ph.D., SPHR, of The University of Southern Mississippi. The session, titled “Intentional Courage, Consequential Change,” explored how real leadership often emerges in moments of tension and how practicing intentional courage can drive meaningful, lasting change across teams and organizations.
“Any workplace can benefit from acting with intentional courage in our professional lives,” said Tim Brister, Trade Compliance Analyst. “I'm excited to put what I learned at the event into practice going forward.”
Dr. Breland emphasized that tension is the garden where leadership grows. Individuals who do not shy away from tense moments—and can navigate them professionally—are more likely to succeed in the workplace. Shipbuilders left feeling better equipped to face challenging situations with clarity and purpose.
“The real‑world examples and open dialogue made the content feel practical and immediately useful,” said Amy Bain, Business Process Analyst. “It is great to see the company investing in high‑quality development opportunities, especially by bringing in outside experts to broaden perspective.”
