Heat stress isn’t just uncomfortable; it can turn serious fast. Heat exhaustion, heat stroke and other conditions can put your health at risk and impact your ability to stay focused and safe on the job. 

The good news: it’s preventable when you act early and stay consistent.  

Cold water bins will soon be available across the shipyard every Monday and Thursday through September to help you stay hydrated throughout the day. 

KNOW THE SIGNSPay attention to your body and check on your teammates.  

  • Muscle cramps or unusual fatigue  

  • Dizziness or blurry vision  

  • Nausea or excessive sweating  

  • Pale or flushed skin  

  • Fast, shallow breathing  

 

WHAT TO DOSmall actions make a big difference in the heat: 

  • Start hydrating before your shift — don’t wait until you’re thirsty  

  • Drink about one cup of water every 15–20 minutes  

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks  

  • Wear light, breathable clothing when possible  

  • Take breaks and use shaded or cool areas  

  • Look out for each other and speak up if something doesn’t seem right
