Anchors of Excellence | USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) Team
Shipbuilders on USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) were recognized recently for the leadership, teamwork and pride they’ve poured into the two most recent major milestones: Builder’s Trials and Crew Move Aboard.
ON THE DECKPLATE
Ingalls’ DDG 1000 Program Office presented the awards to craft leaders on the flight deck of the ship, bringing the recognition directly to where the work is being performed.
“Our leaders here on DDG 1000 and across Ingalls set the tone every day. They solve problems, support their crews and keep the work moving,” said Lars Rundberg, DDG 1000 Construction Manager. “This ship is where it is today because of the way they show up for this team.”
That work doesn’t get done without strong leadership.
“Throughout the program, we have made it a priority at our QPRs to recognize the craftsmen and support organizations working on the deckplate,” said Tyler Martin, DDG 1000 Ship Program Manager. “For this QPR, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the leadership team whose day‑to‑day guidance is essential in driving the excellence we’ve seen on DDG 1000. Their commitment directly shapes the quality and readiness of the ship.”
TEAMWORK ACROSS DEPARTMENTS
The Quarterly Program Review also included recognition of shipbuilders across various departments at Ingalls that support work on the ship for their attention to detail and steady coordination to keep the ship moving forward.
U.S. Navy Capt. Clinton Lawler, PMS 500 Program Manager, personally thanked shipbuilders for their work.
“There’s so much that goes into these milestones. The details matter,” Lawler told shipbuilders. “Seeing that work completed, and seeing the quality it was done with is truly a gift from Ingalls to the crew. It says, ‘We’ve done this job, and we’re ready for these Sailors to come aboard and take ownership of this ship.’”
Together, these shipbuilders continue to push DDG 1000 toward the finish line with skill, pride and teamwork.
