Ingalls-built San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28) sails alongside Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64) and Supply-class fast combat support ship USNS Supply (T-AOE 6), in the Caribbean Sea, Jan. 29, 2026.

U.S. military forces are deployed to the Caribbean in support of the U.S. Southern Command mission, Department of War-directed operations, and the president’s priorities to disrupt illicit drug trafficking and protect the homeland.

The keel of LPD 28 was laid in 2017 and was christened in 2021 at Ingalls. LPD 28 is named in recognition of the city of Fort Lauderdale’s military history, including the Seminole Wars and the Naval Air Station based there, which has trained thousands of pilots since World War II, including the 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush.
