Holiday treats set the scene as the new employee resource group CODE held their debut Cookies & Cocoa event. Shipbuilders enjoyed networking and learning about CODE’s mission.
CODE, which stands for Connecting Organizations, Developing Engineers, focuses on a collaborative network of STEM professionals in various departments across Ingalls.
“This event brought people from all over the shipyard together for conversation. That’s the kind of networking and collaboration that will help grow people’s knowledge and careers,” said Logan Killen, CODE chairperson. “Towards the end of the event, some senior leadership stopped in to meet attendees, and it was a fantastic opportunity to put a face to a name and meet those you would never have met otherwise.”
Participants showed up in their festive sweaters and took part in a fun mug-swap activity, bringing coffee mugs to trade and spark conversation.
“I was able to socialize and network with some of our newest shipbuilders and co-op students as well as more experienced shipbuilders,” said Lennon Steadham, structural engineer. “These types of events really help bridge the gap between different departments throughout the shipyard that typically would not get a chance to just relax and talk about both professional and personal topics. I’m looking forward to similar events!”
