Our shipyard is busy and always changing, making it critical that every shipbuilder practices effective communication. In doing so, we create an environment where Zero Injuries is not just a goal, but the standard.
Here are some ways you can communicate effectively:
Check in with your foreman and crew throughout your shift. Let your teammates know what you’re doing by communicating information clearly and specifically. Use Take Five meetings, crew talks and the IngallsConnect App to stay updated on information.
Stay aware. Actively watch and understand what’s going on around you at all times. Remaining vigilant ensures you are ready when unexpected events happen and are able to respond safely.
Share information early. Don’t wait for someone to ask you. If you have important safety information, share it right away.
Set clear expectations. It’s important to understand what is expected of you and what you can expect from your fellow shipbuilders. Clear expectations lead to a safer workplace. Communicate your questions and concerns to your supervisor or utilize an ORC.
Report issues. If you see something that isn’t following our safety procedures, let others know. Be clear about what you see and help correct it to get back on track.
Let’s all work together to make sure every shipbuilder goes home safe at the end of the day.
Zero Fires. Zero Damages. Zero Injuries. Zero Compromise.
