Growing up, Terri Eilerts dreamed of being a sportscaster. She has always valued the life lessons learned through team sports, as well as how players from all walks of life work together to achieve success. As a founding member with the Ingalls Shipbuilding Equality Alliance (ISEA) employee resource group (ERG), Terri helps unite shipbuilders so they can build ships that are strong and safe.

“Being your authentic self makes you more engaged and proud to come to work,” said Terri. “I got involved with ISEA to help change the culture and make a difference in the shipyard.”

Inspired by her father’s 23-year career with the U.S. Air Force, Terri knew she wanted to support the military through her own work. It was an easy decision to accept a position at Ingalls as an electrical engineering manager.

“The fact that I could come here and work on Navy ships meant a lot to me and my family legacy,” said Terri. “You can make a living and give back to your country and the people who fight for our freedom.”

Terri helps manage the budget and the allocation of resources. This includes overseeing electrical equipment and the integration of ships.

“We maintain that responsibility all the way through delivery, ensuring we meet Navy milestones and ship specification requirements,” said Terri. “In return, the Navy benefits with cost savings and a return on investment.”

As her career has progressed, Terri’s noticed strides towards greater inclusivity at Ingalls. That was a sign for her to help create ISEA.

“Ingalls sponsors a variety of pride events in the local area, and it’s overwhelming to see such a positive reaction,” said Terri.

ISEA, along with the other ERGs, highlights shipbuilders coming together and contributing to the legacy of Ingalls. It’s that camaraderie that means so much to Terri.

“Being an ally in this community means gaining friendship and acceptance without judgment,” said Terri. “The people I work with every day make our company the best  place to work because of that attitude.”

Ingalls is committed to attracting diverse talent and strives to develop every shipbuilder to help them be successful. When we feel respected and supported, we are able to do our best work. By celebrating diversity in the workplace, spreading awareness about things that matter to you and encouraging advocacy, we ensure that every shipbuilder’s voice is heard and that we all have a place to BELONG.
