Progress is being made on the future USS Sam Nunn (DDG 133). Three units making up the bottom portion of the forward house were recently stacked.

The three units will eventually make up the ship’s first grand block, which will contain DDG 133’s electronic spaces.

The units were stacked using a gantry crane to set them in place, which requires both Hull and gantry riggers working together.
It took six weeks to complete the unit stack.

“Stacking these units is the first major step in bringing the ship together,” said Robert Benton, ship superintendent. “It’s part of the puzzle we’re putting together.”
