In honor of Fire Prevention Week starting today, Ingalls would like to highlight some of the shipbuilders that help us Zero In on safety. Fire safety and prevention plays a huge role in building world-class ships. In order to deliver high-quality vessels to our service members, it's important to be aware of ship conditions, cleanliness, care and protection.

“Bottom-line, a clean ship is a safe ship; a clean shipyard is a safe shipyard,” emphasized Avery Moore, manager, Fire Prevention & Safety. “As we raise awareness for safe hot work practices, we must hold ourselves and each other accountable.”

The Fire Prevention & Safety team is on standby around the clock to provide assistance with any of the vessels. This process relies on communication across the entire shipyard for things to run smoothly.

“From general foremen conducting ‘take fives’ with their people to discuss safety, to shipbuilders checking ships overnight, it takes everyone being on the same page to accomplish our goals,” said John Fleshman, ship fire marshal. “This helps fulfill our purpose here at Ingalls to provide our country with an asset to defend our freedom and democracy around the world.”

We know that zero is the place to be when it comes to fires, injuries and anything that threatens the work we do. Creating a zero compromise culture around fires, injury to our team, or damage to our ships is vital and a responsibility we all share.
