We are proud to announce the artist of the first-ever Ingalls Holiday Card Contest! With more than 30 entries submitted by the children and grandchildren of shipbuilders, the artwork was voted on by guests at Ingalls’ 2022 Family Day.
Featuring an original drawing of Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29), the winning entry belongs to Yarissel Hernandez-Rivera.
Yarissel is the daughter of Human Resources assistant Risselmarie Rivera and Facilities engineer Eliezer Correa. Her artwork will now be featured on the 2022 Ingalls holiday card.
“When I first sat down to draw, I was trying to figure out what to do,” said Yarissel. “I started searching for different ships and then I saw this one – the LPD 29. I thought it was really nice so I decided to draw it. The first few sketches were a little rough but, after a while, I got the hang of it and started doing it more by memory. I finished this design three times but kept cleaning it up until I had this completed drawing. I'm so excited that everyone voted for it and it won!”
Yarissel is in the sixth grade and is a member of her school’s yearbook club. In her free time, she enjoys painting and drawing.
We would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in this contest. Look for the winning artwork on your holiday card and in the upcoming Anchor!
