Our Ingalls summer interns are proud to kick off Lights of Hope, a meaningful fundraising project benefiting the American Cancer Society. Through this effort, interns will encourage shipbuilders across the yard to purchase and decorate luminary bags in honor or memory of loved ones impacted by cancer. Each $10 luminary will be displayed at Ingalls in August before being displayed at the breast cancer walk in Moss Point and the national Lights of Hope installation in Washington, D.C.

Why it matters
Cancer touches many families throughout our workforce and our community. Lights of Hope gives shipbuilders a way to honor those they care about while supporting ACS programs that directly impact patients and families. The project also offers our interns a hands-on leadership experience as they organize events, promote participation, and connect employees with a cause that matters.

How it works
• Luminary bags can be purchased for a $10 donation using this secure link
• Decorate your bag in any way you choose
• Return all completed bags to CSA 3Admin 2 Lobby, or your intern representative
• Deadline: Friday, July 31

On-site event opportunities
Our interns will host two in-person Lights of Hope pop-up events this summer at CSA 3 and the Admin 2 Lobby. Dates will be announced soon, and all supplies will be provided.

Support from across the yard
Employees are encouraged to purchase a luminary, promote the initiative within their teams, or support an intern’s fundraising efforts. Department participation, leadership involvement, and friendly competition are all welcome as we work toward raising funds and awareness for ACS.
