The Big Picture: Want to move into craft leadership? A new eight-week course is now being offered to help shipbuilders grow the skills and mindsets needed to be an effective leader and supervisor.  

 

Why It Matters: Leadership is more than just a job title; it’s living our values, earning trust and doing what’s right for the team around you and for the mission we serve. This course will help you build that foundation before taking on a supervisory role. 

 

What To Know: 

  • Open to All Craft: For shipbuilders who want to grow into leadership, including current work leads 

  • About the Course: 

  • Classes will meet once a week from September 25 to November 13 
  • Classes will be held from 3-5 p.m. every Thursday in the ORC 4 conference room, located in CSA 3 
  • This is a non-chargeable activity 
  • What You’ll Learn: Each week will focus on leadership skills needed to be a leader and craft supervisor 

  • Communication > Accountability > Expectations > Culture  

  • Capstone Project: Show how you’ll apply what you’ve learned in your current role 

  • Craft-Focused: Includes leadership lessons designed to help you succeed in the shipyard 

  • Enrollment Requirements:  

  • Ingalls shipbuilder for 6+ months 
  • No safety-related layoffs 
  • No more than 2 DANS  
  • No more than 3 unexcused absences
