The Bigger Picture: We’d like to celebrate our dedicated Ingalls Champions for volunteering at the recent christening of Jeremiah Denton (DDG 129).

What Happened: Because of our Ingalls Champions, christening guests enjoyed a first-class experience.

  • Bus guides briefed guests with key info and Christening facts prior to arriving to the site
  • Volunteers welcomed and seated our guests with grace
  • Distributed water and other items to create a comfortable environment throughout the entire event

Why It Matters: Ingalls Champions is a volunteer program that gives shipbuilders the opportunity to support special events. Their support turns an event into a moment people will remember.

What Ingalls Champions Are Saying:
Victor Nicholson, Student/Intern, HR&A: "Volunteering was a unique opportunity to take part in a proud Ingalls tradition, supporting an event that honors the vessel’s launch and its future journeys. As a volunteer, I helped with guest coordination, setup, and ensuring the ceremony ran smoothly—from welcoming attendees to witnessing the bottle break. It was a memorable experience to contribute to such a historic and symbolic occasion alongside naval personnel and community members and would recommend to any volunteer to be a part of such an unforgettable experience."

Thora Golson, Procurement Planning Control Rep, SCM: My favorite part of the experience was the standing ovation that the veterans from the Armed Forces Retirement Home received as they were escorted to their seats. (You can tell by the looks on their faces that it made their day). I really enjoyed working with this team of volunteers who made sure that the event flowed smoothly. They are truly amazing, and I have made several new friends since I started volunteering.”
