Beat the Heat | Staying safe as temperatures rise

The Big Picture: Temperatures are climbing — and so is the risk of heat stress.

  • Stay safe by acting early and often

Why It’s Important: Heat stress can cause serious health issues: heat exhaustion, stroke, heart attack, cramps, and more. Prevention is key.

What to Know: Starting this week, cold water bins will be available across the shipyard every Monday and Thursday through September.

Symptoms to Watch For:

  • Muscle cramps, fatigue
  • Dizziness, blurry vision
  • Nausea, excessive sweating
  • Pale or flushed skin
  • Fast, shallow breathing

What to Do:

  • Hydrate before your shift — then drink 1 cup of water every 15–20 minutes
  • Skip alcohol, caffeine and sugary drinks
  • Wear light, breathable clothes
  • Rest when needed
  • Watch out for each other
