Ingalls is now accepting applications from current shipbuilders who are interested in serving in a temporary Damage Control position for upcoming sea trials. Applications will be accepted through January 17.
As part of the Damage Control team, shipbuilders will perform the following duties during sea trials:
- Preparing the ship for sea
- Verifying that portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses and flood prevention gear are loaded onboard the ship
- Supporting firefighting, flood prevention and helicopter operations while on Sea Trial
Qualifications:
- Current shipbuilder at Ingalls Shipbuilding
- No more than two (2) instances of disciplinary action/attendance issues
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of company seniority
- Must pass an annual physical conducted by the Ingalls medical team
- Ability to complete a 51 hour U.S. Coast Guard-approved firefighting course
- Willingness to work extended, unscheduled, holiday and weekend hours for multiple days while underway
- Must be willing and available to work scheduled sea trials and during hurricane/severe weather procedures
- Must have solid work ethic
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior military training in firefighting and/or damage control (volunteer firefighting experience may be considered in lieu of military training)
