As a veteran shipbuilder of 25 years, lead electrician Tyranda Caples makes it her responsibility to help others find their way at Ingalls. She uses her knowledge of the shipyard to benefit those around her.

“Knowing the ships built by HII serve our military and our country, it is always my goal to assist new shipbuilders,” said Tyranda. “I want them to understand just how important their role is when building these vessels.”

As the lead electrician on her crew, Tyranda ensures her team has the essential tools and supplies needed to complete the job. She also provides support and on-the-job training when needed.

“I assist my foreman and the team by any means necessary, not only to make sure our work is completed at the LBTF [Land Based Test Facility] on time, but with first-time quality,” said Tyranda.

As a role model, Tyranda’s passion is providing daily information and training to others in the shipyard. Because of her shipyard experience, she’s able to pass along her wisdom to others. She relates to younger shipbuilders, which resonates and enhances performance and quality of work.

“I provide a positive outlook on daily tasks while demonstrating the importance of our work,” said Tyranda. “I’ve been in their shoes before, so I try my best to guide shipbuilders to have great careers.”

Being recognized as one of the many inspirational women in the shipyard lets Tyranda know all of her hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. She strives to meet first-time quality standards at her job and in her personal life, and is grateful for her journey as an Ingalls shipbuilder.

“HII has blessed me to provide my family with financial and health benefits that allow us to have a source of comfort in today’s society,” said Tyranda. “Knowing the work I’ve performed throughout my career has carved a role in shaping the company’s standards in shipbuilding makes me eager to help future generations of shipbuilders grow into their craft.”
