The historic legacy of Ingalls is made up of multiple generations of shipbuilders. Ambre Cauley, portfolio manager, Research & Development,  is an example of that, following in her stepfather’s footsteps. It wasn’t her first choice but it was the right one.

“My stepdad was a pipe welder and I told him I would never work here,” said Ambre. “Fast forward to me being a single mom at the time and I had to provide for my family.”

Twenty years ago, Ambre started with Ingalls as an administrative assistant. With hard work and her ability to network, she made her way into Research & Development.

“I became a budget analyst and worked my way up to a managerial role,” said Ambre. “I love my role because I get to see how Ingalls works with the Navy and how we fit into the strategy of our customers.”

The shipyard business has always been a part of Ambre’s life, however, her role gives her a renewed sense of passion. Ambre is grateful to have the perspective of shipbuilders and their thought processes.

“I enjoy getting to know all shipbuilders,”  said Ambre. “I have an even greater appreciation for  those who wear steel toes and what it takes to be a shipbuilder.”

Ambre’s role involves helping the deckplate with any tech or process improvements to make jobs easier and ships stronger. The advanced forming robot is a case highlighting an operation that helps those building world-class ships.

“Instead of shipbuilders having to work and put strain on their bodies, they can just operate this machine and the robot trims a lot of tedious labor,” she explained. “This helps the company produce higher quality products at a faster rate, cut costs and keep shipbuilders healthy, which helps the bottom line.”

Knowing she still has a lot to accomplish at Ingalls, Ambre is far from being done. With so many opportunities to grow and develop, she knows there’s only one person standing in her way.

“I am only limited by myself. My next step is whatever I dream it to be,” said Ambre. “As long as I am making a difference, I'll do whatever I can to contribute to the legacy of Ingalls.”
