Heat advisory in effect this week. Here are tips on preventing heat stress.

Published 06/14/2022

With the heat index expected to be at 100 degrees or more this week, heat advisories have been issued for South Mississippi.

Ingalls wants to remind shipbuilders to drink plenty of water, replenish electrolytes and be on the lookout for signs of heat stress.

Bins of cold bottled water will be placed around the shipyard. These water distribution sites can be found every Tuesday and Friday from now through the end of September.

Signs of heat stress include muscle cramps, weakness or fatigue, light-headedness, dizziness, blurry vision, trouble focusing, nausea, excessive sweating, pale or flushed complexion, or fast and shallow breathing. Left unchecked, heat stress can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heart attack, heat cramps or heat rashes.

If you or a coworker are suffering from these symptoms, please get help immediately. Emergency first responders can be reached by dialing 911 from any Ingalls phone, or by dialing 228-935-6101 from a cell phone.
