Step 1: FEMA Registration

  • A current phone number where you can be contacted
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying ▪ Your Social Security number, if available
  • A general list of damage and losses
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name

Step 2: Temporary Shelter Assistance

Use FEMA registration number once you complete registration to apply for temporary shelter assistance. This is granted sparingly. This is completed on the disasterassistance.gov site that you registered on.

Step 3: DSNAP Pre-Registration

Text LADSNAP to 898211

This is not an available resource at the moment, but pre-registration is recommended to ensure applicants receive the benefit as soon as it becomes available. This resource is for disaster related food assistance.

Step 4: American Red Cross Financial Assistance

Red Cross has approximately 20 shelters open throughout the area.

At each location, there are representatives on hand to help you complete the application process for their financial assistance program. This is a small amount of funding intended to meet immediate needs.

Applications must be done on-site at the shelters. For the shelter map, download the free Red Cross app OR text LASHELTER to 898-211
