THE BIG PICTURE: USS Paul Ignatius (DDG 117) was one of more than 40 ships that took part in Baltic Operations 2025 (BALTOPS 25) in June.

  • BALTOPS is NATO’s premier maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic Region

BECAUSE OF YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS: DDG 117 supported advanced warfighting drills alongside NATO forces, helping demonstrate Allied strength and cooperation in contested waters.

 

OPERATION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 20 days | 40+ ships | 25+ aircraft | 9,000 personnel
  • 16 Participating NATO Allies: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States
  • Practiced maritime defense and response tactics 
  • Supported testing of unmanned systems for surveillance, resupply and threat response

HOW IT RELATES TO YOU:

  • DDG 117 is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer built at Ingalls
    • Keel laid in 2015 and christened in 2017
    • Commissioned into the fleet in 2019
    • Named for World War II naval officer and former Secretary of the Navy  Paul Ignatius
