THE BIG PICTURE: The Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) — which includes three Ingalls-built ships — completed Amphibious Squadron Marine Expeditionary Unit Integration Training (PMINT) in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • From flight ops to security drills, the two-week training brought Navy and Marine Corps teams together at sea to build unity, sharpen skills and prepare for real-world missions

BECAUSE OF YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS: More than 3,000 Sailors and Marines across the ARG trained as one integrated force.

  • 1,800 Sailors and 1,200 Marines conducted joint operations
  • Flight ops qualified pilots and aircrew and increased deck readiness
  • Security drills boosted shipboard defense using integrated Navy and Marine systems
  • Teams trained for medical, logistics and close-quarters scenarios

HOW IT RELATES TO YOU: Three ships that make up the backbone of the ARG were built by YOU!

  • USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7): Wasp-class amphibious assault ship; flagship of the ARG
    • Keel laid in 1997; christened in 2000; delivered in 2001
    • Supports air operations and overall command
  • USS San Antonio (LPD 17): Lead ship of the San Antonio-class
    • Keel laid at Avondale in 2000; construction moved to Ingalls; christened in 2003
    • Delivered in 2005 just before Hurricane Katrina; later housed shipbuilders and emergency responders
    • Currently home to nearly 400 Sailors
  • USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28): San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock
    • Keel laid in 2019; christened in 2021; delivered in 2022
    • Embarked Marines and supported joint flight operations during PMINT
