For more than 85 years, Ingalls shipbuilders have served as the backbone of our nation’s defense, building ships that project power, maintain peace and safeguard seas across the globe. We remain committed to this important work, knowing that THEIR mission is OUR purpose.

Amphibious assault carrier USS Tripoli (LHA 7) is pictured above sailing on the Pacific Ocean on May 25, 2024. Tripoli is an America-class amphibious assault ship homeported in San Diego. The ship is currently underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet.

The 3rd Fleet’s area of responsibility includes approximately 50 million square miles of the eastern and northern Pacific Ocean areas including the Bering Sea, Alaska, the Aleutian Islands and a sector of the Arctic. Major oil and trade sea lines of communication within this area are critically important to the economic health of the United States and friendly nations throughout the Pacific Rim region.

The fleet provides maritime homeland defense, regional security and humanitarian operations support through integrated naval and coast guard forces acting as a single Sea Service. It strengthens relations between the U.S. and its allies and partners through joint, inter-agency and multinational exercises and operations like Rim of the Pacific, Pacific Partnership and Fleet Weeks. The Third Fleet ensures realistic, relevant training to its personnel so they have the necessary skills to promote peace and prevail in conflict.

Built at Ingalls, USS Tripoli (LHA-7) is the second America-class amphibious assault ship built for the U.S. Navy. The ship is named in honor of the U.S. Marine Corps victory against Tripoli at the Battle of Derna during the First Barbary War. LHA 7 was delivered to the U.S. Navy in early 2020.

THEIR mission is OUR purpose.
