Way to go, shipbuilders! Ingalls Shipbuilders Health is a Priority (ISHIP) members, pictured above from left to right, Julia Pierce, Marla Cooper and Cindy Coon participated in the Zebra Run on March 2 in support of United MSD’s mission to raise funds and support for critical research related to Multiple Sulfatase Deficiency (MSD).

Cindy earned a first place medal for her group and Marla clocked her best time yet in a 5K.

MSD is a rare genetic disorder that impacts the brain, skin and skeletal system. The organization, known by many as Warriors for Willow, has raised millions of dollars and made significant headway toward identifying therapies and, most importantly, a cure for MSD.

The mascot for the rare disease community is the zebra because medical students are taught to look for a horse rather than zebras when diagnosing patients, meaning they should look for the more common disease first. Currently, the average life expectancy for a child with MSD is 13 years.
