Our shipyard is a highly dynamic work environment. Because it is constantly active and changing, it is important that you continuously maintain a high level of situational awareness.

Situational awareness means being alert to what's happening around you and your fellow shipbuilders, and using your best judgment to stay informed. It’s anticipating the unexpected and knowing what to do when situations arise.

Be aware of others working around or with you. When hazards are developing or at-risk behaviors are occurring, step up and use your STOP badge to prevent injury.

Identify potential or existing hazards. Inspect your work area before starting your task and conduct a pre-use inspection on all tools, equipment, leads, lines, hoses, PPE, etc. If you are unsure if something is a hazard, ask your supervisor.

Demonstrate awareness of task performance. Understand how job tasks may have to be managed, such as hot work and painting, which must be done at separate times.

Continually assess the situation. As your work environment changes, hazard controls may, as well. Make sure signs or barricades are in place where needed, and ventilation and lighting are still working properly.

Help us create a workplace where Zero Injuries is not just a goal but a reality. Let’s work together to ensure that every shipbuilder returns home safely at the end of each day.

Zero Fires. Zero Damages. Zero Injuries. Zero Compromise.
