Welcome Back, Fellow Shipbuilders…!
What amazing things we have to work on together this year – important ship milestones, potential new contracts, continued partnership with our customers and colleagues. Even more important is the additional work we must do to take care of one another.
While last year we kicked off our Zero In campaign, this was just a beginning…
Any one of us getting hurt either by making a decision that wasn’t the best decision or by not preventing something from happening to a team mate that could have been prevented is a team loss, and I believe we are a winning team.
Over the course of the coming year we will expand the Zero In pillars around fires, injuries, damage and compromise. While they all work together, compromise is a critical foundation for our outcomes. Any fire or injury or damage to a shipbuilder, our ships or our shipyard is a lost battle. But, if any of us compromises what we know to be the right way to do something, check something or say something, then we have lost the war. Let’s take care of one another. Every Ingalls Shipbuilder is irreplaceable.
I have asked our Safety team mates to look at us objectively and engage in a different way this year. While we made progress last year together in fire and safety, we haven’t made enough if the number of events is still greater than zero. All of us, including me, unintentionally walked past something last year that we could have pointed out or said something about, but didn’t.
Going forward, our Safety team will be relentless in holding us accountable in order to help us make our shipyard the very safest and best it can be. Please support this, take it seriously, and understand the intention behind it.

Este año tenemos cosas increíbles en las que trabajar juntos: logros importantes en los buques, posibles nuevos contratos, continua colaboración con nuestros clientes y colegas. Aún más importante es el trabajo adicional que debemos hacer para cuidarnos unos a otros.
Aunque el año pasado pusimos en marcha nuestra campaña Zero In, esto solo fue el principio...
Cualquiera de nosotros que salga perjudicado, ya sea por tomar una decisión que no fue la mejor o por no evitar que a un compañero le ocurriera algo que podría haberse evitado, es una pérdida de equipo, y creo que somos un equipo ganador.
En el transcurso del próximo año ampliaremos los fundamentos de Zero In en torno al fuego, las lesiones, los daños y el compromiso. Aunque todos ellos funcionan conjuntamente, el compromiso es una base fundamental para nuestros resultados. Cualquier incendio, lesión o daño a un astillero, a nuestros buques o a nuestro astillero es una batalla perdida. Pero si cualquiera de nosotros arriesga lo que sabemos hacer bien, revisar o decir, habremos perdido la guerra. Cuidemos los unos de los otros. Cada constructor naval de Ingalls es insustituible.
He pedido a nuestros colegas del equipo de Seguridad que nos miren con objetividad y se comprometan de otra manera este año. Aunque el año pasado hicimos avances juntos en materia de incendios y seguridad, no hemos progresado lo suficiente si el número de incidentes sigue siendo superior a cero. Todos nosotros, incluyéndome a mí, el año pasado pasamos por alto involuntariamente algo que podíamos haber señalado o sobre lo que podíamos haber dicho pero no lo hicimos.
De ahora en adelante, nuestro equipo de protección será implacable a la hora de exigirnos responsabilidades para ayudarnos a hacer que nuestro astillero sea el mejor y el más seguro posible. Por favor, apoyen esto, tómenlo en serio y entiendan la intención que hay en todo esto.
