Ingalls shipbuilders put their knowledge to the test at the annual Are You Smarter Than a Club Kid? event, raising more than $2,000 for Boys & Girls Club of the Gulf Coast.
Representing Ingalls on stage were Shelly Laughlin, Amphibious Program Business Manager, and Jaylon Morris, Integrated Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Representative.
Each shipbuilder was paired up with a Club kid to be the first to buzz in the correct answer.
For Shelly, who also represented Junior Auxiliary of Ocean Springs-Biloxi as the nonprofit’s current president, being part of the event was all about giving back.
“I’m proud to support the Boys & Girls Club of the Gulf Coast and the incredible work they do for the youth in our community,” said Shelly. “It was especially meaningful to participate in the fundraiser while representing both Junior Auxiliary and Ingalls – two organizations that share a strong commitment to service, community and creating opportunities for the next generation. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back alongside so many other who are invested in making a difference.”
“Competing alongside the Boys & Girls Club kids was a huge highlight for me,” said Jaylon. “We didn’t bring home the trophy, but we did make a difference in our community and I’m so grateful for that opportunity.”
Last year’s winner Katie Weldon, Integrated Communications & Strategic Marketing Manager, also provided entertaining commentary and questions as one of the event’s cohosts.
The Boys & Girls Club of the Gulf Coast provides local youth with a safe place to learn, grow and build the skills they need to succeed. The annual event brings community members together to support that mission while putting their knowledge to the test against Club kids.
