The Veterans Employee Resource Team (VERT) hosted a general membership meeting as an effort to share their mission to support military outreach both in the shipyard and the community.

“We made meaningful progress on reintroducing VERT, reinforcing our commitment to supporting veteran and military-connected shipbuilders, recruiting more hands-on deck while strengthening engagement across the organization,” Ebony Sikes, VERT chair. “Together, we are building a stronger, more connected VERT community.”

Vice President of Infrastructure & Sustainability Fatina Brave was a guest speaker, sharing her experience as a VERT member and encouraging shipbuilders to contribute to a cause that extends beyond the workplace.

“Fatina’s message was especially meaningful, and I left feeling informed, inspired, and excited to build connections and grow through my involvement,” said Holly Jackson, Human Resources & Administration. “Supporting veterans is a cause that is deeply personal to me, shaped by watching my father and grandfather serve and supporting my husband in his military career now.”

Shipbuilders learned how to get involved with VERT, including opportunities to contribute ideas and outreach on events like the annual Veterans Day panel, wreath laying ceremonies, military observances and recruitment efforts across the company and the community.

“Joining VERT has given me a new purpose within the company,” said Latisha Brisco, ship fire marshal. “I just regret not joining VERT earlier, however, I am a member now and I am ready to contribute to my team and help others join our mission.
