“Everyone was laughing.”
“It was just a comment.”
“They didn’t mean anything by it.”

Harassment is often dismissed with statements like these, but the impact is real. Behavior that makes someone feel disrespected, uncomfortable or unsafe is not acceptable at Ingalls.

Harassment has consequences.

Comments, gestures, unwanted advances or other disrespectful behaviors can affect the people around us and damage the trust that keeps our teams strong. When concerns are reported and confirmed, appropriate action is taken.

SCENARIO: A shipbuilder repeatedly makes personal comments toward a  coworker. The coworker does not engage and tries to avoid the situation,  but the comments continue.

HARASSMENT: Repeated unwanted comments or advances can create  an uncomfortable workplace, even if the person making them believes  they are joking or being friendly.

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE: Respect boundaries. If someone seems  uncomfortable or asks you to stop, stop. If you see this behavior  happening, support your teammate and report the concern through the  appropriate channels.

Don't Ignore It, Report It.

Why It Matters: A safe, respectful workplace does not happen by accident. It happens when every shipbuilder understands their actions matter and chooses to treat others with respect.

Zero Compromise means no exceptions when it comes to harassment. Every shipbuilder has a role in protecting the culture we need to build the ships that protect our warfighters.

HII strictly prohibits any form of retaliation against any employee who in good faith voices a concern, makes a complaint, reports misconduct, reports an illegal act or violation of company policies/procedures, or provides assistance in an investigation.
