Ingalls-built ships continue to support the Navy's mission around the world. The Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4) and the San Antonio-class transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27) sailed in formation June 24, 2026, while in the Indian Ocean.

LHD 4 and LPD 27 are operating as part of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. As the ARG flagship, Boxer leads the formation during operations throughout the Indo-Pacific.

WHY IT MATTERS

Navy forces like LHD 4 and LPD 27 operating throughout the Indo-Pacific underscore the global demand for a ready fleet.

Every deployment showcases the capabilities built by Ingalls shipbuilders, projecting power and supporting maritime security thousands of miles from home.

FOR CONTEXT

USS Boxer (LHD 4) was built at Ingalls, with construction beginning in 1991 and the ship being commissioned in 1995. The keel for USS Portland (LPD 27) was laid down at Ingalls in 2014, and the ship was commissioned in 2017.

Ingalls Planning Yard Services continues to support both ships, providing technical data to upgrade and maintain each vessel throughout its life cycle.

Together, these ships represent decades of Ingalls shipbuilding expertise and continue to carry that legacy forward on today's missions.
