With eight years behind him as a shipbuilder, Pipe foreman Jamario Cole is already helping shape culture and leadership in the shipyard.

He believes in the work being done at Ingalls, in the shipbuilders who do it, and in the future it can provide. It’s a message he shares openly and with genuine conviction, often encouraging others by sharing opportunities and information.

“I came from a dead-end job,” he said. “Ingalls gave me a chance to learn a skill and build a career. I try to share that with anyone who may be looking for something better in life like I was.”

Jamario graduated from Ingalls Apprentice School in 2022 as a pipe welder. He quickly stood out for his attention to detail, willingness to learn and positive attitude. Those qualities continue to shape his leadership style.

“I’m a hands-on leader. I try to teach, because I think about the kind of person I needed when I came in,” Jamario said. “I want my crew to understand the trade and feel proud of what they’re doing. This work matters.”

Jamario is a reminder that the culture we’re building comes from people who live it, teach it and take pride in helping others find their place here.

“I don’t want to be the reason someone doesn’t like coming to work. Instead of talking about the problems, I want to be the change. That’s why I became a foreman.”

Shipbuilders like Jamario demonstrate what’s possible when skill, opportunity and leadership come together.
