Today, we remember and honor the courage of first responders, service members and civilians who faced unimaginable challenges on this day 24 years ago. Our nation watched in horror as the events of 9/11 played out on television screens across the world. Out of that tragedy came a renewed sense of unity and resolve, one Ingalls shipbuilders helped carry forward in a lasting way.

Following the attacks, three ships were built at the Pascagoula and Avondale yards to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost – USS New York (LPD 21), USS Arlington (LPD 24) and USS Somerset (LPD 25). Those ships now carry the spirit of unity, strength and courage felt by Americans on September 12, 2001.

The attacks on 9/11 remind us why our work is so important. It reinforces why every weld made, every cable pulled, every piece of steel shaped, is critical in keeping people safe. It’s a reminder that we can never cut corners and that the integrity of our work and our hearts can never be compromised.

On this solemn anniversary, we recommit to these ideals - strength born of sacrifice, strength tempered by honor and fortitude, and unwavering courage through adversity. Through your dedication, the ships we build sail as living tributes, carrying forward a spirit of unity, resilience, and hope for generations to come.
