Before becoming an Ingalls shipbuilder, Anthony Snow, manager, test engineering,  taught fire science at an academy in Virginia. While firefighting and shipbuilding share plenty of similarities, teaching is the common theme that resonates with Anthony the most.

Anthony originally moved to South Mississippi to be a wildland fire suppression specialist. He then found his way to Ingalls, where he was hired on as an electrical engineer.

“Seventeen years later and now I'm a Test Engineering manager and a lead for the LPD program,” said Anthony. “I’m responsible for software integration on the ship. I go on sea trials, install sensors on the ship, collect data and generate reports.”

Since Anthony enjoys teaching others, he decided to become an instructor for the apprenticeship program. Anthony loves to make shipbuilding exciting and engaging for students.

“There are eight different classes in the program and I’ve taught six of them,” said Anthony. “I love passing my knowledge down to the students and helping our shipbuilders.”

Anthony’s teaching style focuses on patience. This includes making himself available to answer any questions. He recognizes the material can sometimes be difficult, so he is committed to helping students achieve their goals.

“I'll stop if someone has a question because others may not know the answer either,” said Anthony. “The only dumb question you have is the one you never ask.”

Anthony's dedication to his students is reflected in his strong belief that Ingalls Apprentice School can provide shipbuilders with additional opportunities to grow their careers.

“It makes me happy when students get the information they need to improve,” said Anthony. “This is why they can reach out to me for anything, and I will give them the tools to succeed.”
