Ingalls welcomed more than 70 scouts to its second annual Shipbuilding Merit Badge Day, offering hands-on courses led by shipbuilders and an exclusive shipyard tour. The event introduced young leaders to shipbuilding careers while reinforcing the shared values of scouting and craftsmanship.

More than 20 shipbuilders volunteered to assist with the event, teach courses and guide shipyard tours, sharing their expertise and passion.

“Scouting taught me valuable life lessons that have shaped my career as a shipbuilder,” said Eagle Scout Kevin Kowalewski, manager, Environmental Health & Services. “Both scouting and shipbuilding emphasize dedication, teamwork, and skill-building, and it’s inspiring to see young people investing in their future.”

“The positive difference we make in the lives of these young scouts is priceless,” said Ralph Cruthirds, manager, Pipe & Machinery Training. “You can explain a process and how it applies to their lives as adults — that gets their attention. But when they actually do the process and you see their faces light up, that makes all the time spent worth it. Most of the scouts will never forget their experience at Ingalls — and hopefully, they’ll want to come back as adults to work here.”
