Have you noticed the vibrant, graffiti-style conex boxes out in the shipyard? Operations Resource Centers (ORCs) serve as a place where foremen can get support as they take on the elements of their job. Inside each of the ORCs are shipbuilders who welcome all questions to the production forefront. Marvin Eubanks, production planning and scheduler, uses his experience to assist foremen where needed.
Marvin is currently in the ORC located near the Stacking Hall breezeway. We caught up with him to learn more about how ORCs are helping foremen.
How has this resource center made a difference since it's been in the shipyard? What kind of support or tools do you offer to shipbuilders?
The ORCs have a great future for the growth of our shipyard. Foremen are able to get help with their jobs no matter where they are working in the yard. A small sample of ORC requests include work orders/blueprints, pipe training and 3D modeling. We can also support engineering, IT, HR and Planning questions.
Give me a recent example of your work in action. How were you able to assist a shipbuilder in that moment?
A foreman came to the ORC for help with Zscaler. After connecting her with IT, the issue was resolved, and she was able to access her computer again.
What do you love most about your job?
The most rewarding thing about this job is being able to make foremen’s jobs easier. Foremen have a very tough job and I am glad we now have a place for them to get assistance.
How has working in the ORCs impacted you?
Working in the ORCs has helped me become a better communicator. It also allows me to mentor young shipbuilders, learn from seasoned shipbuilders, and form a team of like-minded individuals who care about helping others become successful.
