This summer, Ingalls welcomed a vibrant cohort of 60 interns, each eager to dive into the dynamic world of shipbuilding. A closing ceremony was held recently to highlight the achievements of the summer interns and celebrate the skills and knowledge they have gained while at Ingalls.

Hailing from various educational backgrounds, these young professionals were given the opportunity to work across various organizations across the shipyard, gaining hands-on experience and insights into the work Ingalls shipbuilders do to help defend our nation.

“Being able to intern at Ingalls has helped me learn more about the type of place I want to work when I graduate,” said Addison Glenn, intern, Estimating & Pricing. “I enjoyed being able to connect with other interns. Everyone helps each other to reach the main goal, and it’s such an incredible feeling knowing the work you are doing is making such a big impact on the nation and its defense.”

Spread across Ingalls, the interns quickly found themselves immersed in the shipyard's daily operations. With positions in Business Management & Finance, Central Planning & Process Excellence, Contracts & Pricing,  Information Technology, Quality & Engineering and more, the students were able to see different perspectives of the shipbuilding business.

“It can be a little daunting starting at a company as big as Ingalls, but I quickly realized that there are so many people here willing to teach me and help guide me,” said Theo Angeles, intern, Information Technology. “Being able to work in IT this summer has made me more excited about the future after graduation.”

Beyond their technical contributions, the interns also completed a service project, raising more than $500 for CASA of Jackson County. Through this collective initiative, the interns were able to help support the nonprofit as they work to advocate for local children. In doing so, the college students were able to see firsthand the difference Ingalls shipbuilders make in the community.

Ingalls internships help students not only gain practical work experience but also understand the teamwork and communication that goes into every role at a company. Through mentorship and guidance from Ingalls shipbuilders, these interns are now better prepared for the challenges and opportunities that await them in the workforce.

Congratulations to the 2024 summer interns on a job well done!
