A student intern at Ingalls is making a lasting impression throughout the shipyard with her artwork on the Operations Resource Centers (ORCs).
Jannell Boudreaux joined the Integrated Communications & Stakeholder Engagement (IC&SE) team as a graphic artist intern in September. It wasn’t long before she was working on a design for the outside of the ORCs.
“I just wanted to show appreciation for shipbuilders by highlighting their work environment in a fun, beautiful way for everyone to see,” said Jannell.
With instructions stating that the ORCs should be colorful, easy to spot and different from anything else in the shipyard, three designs were submitted. Jannell’s was the one chosen.
“They wanted the ORCs to be something you can see a mile away,” said Jannell. “I took that as incorporating every single color possible and making them as bold as I could.”
Located throughout the yard, the ORCs are eye-catching with bright colors and graffiti-style art depicting welders surrounded by vibrant sparks, cranes peeling back layers of steel, Goliath and more.
“My inspiration came from wanting to shine a light on everyone in the shipyard,” said Jannell. “I wanted shipbuilders to see themselves represented in the art and feel appreciated for their hard work.”
Jannell will take these experiences with her as she completes her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of South Alabama.
